Commenting on Lord Carter’s proposals to solve the problem of ‘bed blocking’ (The Carter reports on efficiency savings for the NHS), Tony Stein, chief executive of Healthcare Management Solutions, said:
“It is always good to see politicians proactively seeking new ways to address the looming crisis of how to resource the growing demand for care.
“It makes a lot of sense for owners of care services to work collaboratively with local hospitals to provide post-operative rehabilitation facilities for patients, particularly after hip/knee replacement surgery or other surgery where recovery time can be measured in weeks rather than days. Care homes provide a far more appropriate environment for patients to rehabilitate and to receive occupational and physio therapy in than the acute setting of a hospital.”
