With the Covid-19 vaccination programme underway, at what speed are vaccinations arriving at care homes? Healthcare Management Solutions CEO Tony Stein has been talking to BBC Radio Wales about the situation at our Welsh care homes.
Mr Stein joined Ellen Jones, the Wales Director for the Royal Pharmaceutical Society, during a phone-in on the radio station about the rollout of the Covid-19 vaccine. When asked about the speed at which care homes are receiving the vaccine in Wales, Mr Stein, said; “It’s picking up a pace as we speak. It started off, as all these things do, relatively slowly, I think there was a lot of organisation to take place. The one thing that has held us back a little bit was the access to the vaccination centres. For example, one of our homes, they were offered vaccinations but at a centre that was 16 miles away. So that meant that not all of the staff could get done as quickly as we had wanted.”
Location is Key
Radio Wales Breakfast Show host, Claire Summers, asked if any further ‘bumps in the road’ had been experienced. Mr Stein replied; “Everything seems to depend on where we can get the vaccines done. I mean if we can get them vaccinated actually at work or actually at the care home it’s much, much simpler and it takes place very very quickly and I think the news that they are going to increase the number of vaccination centres is going to make a massive difference.”
