With the colder weather ahead and the nights drawing in, flu season is upon us once again. This year, the Quality & Clinical Practice and Marketing teams at Healthcare Management Solutions have created an engaging digital campaign to encourage an increase in flu vaccination uptake amongst its nursing and care staff.
A series of eye-catching infographics have been designed to highlight the importance of the wider protection the flu vaccination can provide. Often referred to as ‘herd immunity,’ the idea is that each person who receives the flu jab reduces the risk of spreading the virus to the wider community.
The campaign also highlights the fact that all nurses and care staff, employed by a registered residential care or nursing home in England or Wales, are eligible for a free NHS flu vaccination during the 2019/2020 flu season. While the free flu vaccination scheme is not available to nursing or care staff in Scotland, Healthcare Management Solutions has confirmed that nursing and care staff at its managed care homes in Scotland will be reimbursed for privately booked flu jabs.
Helen Nethercott, Healthcare Management Solutions Director of Quality and Clinical Practise, said; “Anyone who has had flu will tell you that they will be the first in the queue for the flu vaccination. It is not pleasant for the healthiest people in society and is something we need to ensure we protect our care home residents from. Our hope is to increase the uptake amongst staff this year, providing another level of protection for our most vulnerable residents.”
The digital flu jab campaign has been published internally to all staff, and has also been shared on care homes’ websites and Facebook pages to encourage uptake amongst family members and visitors.
