Healthcare Management Solutions, one of the largest healthcare management companies in the UK, is working in partnership with Glenisla Developments Limited (GDL) to create a 60-bed care home, which is part of an innovative mixed-use development in Alyth, Perth & Kinross. The development has been named “Pitcrocknie Village” after the the ancient Pitcrocknie Standing Stone which will remain a prominent feature of the site.
The care home, which will create around 60 jobs in late 2020, will specialise in dementia care and be purpose-built to a very high specification. It will benefit from the latest dementia care design, with significant input from the experts at Healthcare Management Solutions and the highly regarded Dementia Services Development Centre (DSDC) at Stirling University.
In a letter that was submitted with the planning application, Martin Quirke of the DSDC wrote: ‘Through their engagement of DSDC for dementia design consultation, Glenisla Developments Ltd have set out to achieve the highest standards of dementia design throughout the proposed development. They further evidence their intent, aiming to achieve the Gold Standard Award under the University of Stirling’s Dementia Design Accreditation process. So far, the overall proposed scheme includes several characteristics that reflect some of the best recognised international standards in evidence-based dementia accessible design.’
A Professional Healthcare Surveyors Report commissioned by Heathcare Management Solutions demonstrated strong demand for a care home and assisted living facilities in the area. It shows that an additional 50 care beds will be required every year for at least the next 10 years, with little or no other purpose-built care homes with dementia specialism planned within a 20-mile radius of Pitcrocknie Village
In addition, the Scottish Government has prioritised dementia care and the development will provide some facilities detailed in its Dementia Strategy 2017 – 2020.
Pitcrocknie Village will also offer a range of housing, including family homes and affordable housing, with the first phase of 20 properties offering care provisions or assisted living if required. Healthcare Management Solutions will provide management services as domiciliary care providers to meet the needs of individuals living in the wider development.
Sixty acres of the 140-acre former golf course site will be developed into housing, the care home and some commercial units, with the remaining 80 acres continuing to operate as the nine-hole Glenisla Golf Course, owned by the developers. The former club house will provide a function hub, and communal gardens, and recreation areas with walking and cycling paths also forming part of the plan.
